Before requesting the appointment
Know the document type, signing address, number of signers and deadline. Ask the document preparer which notarial act or witnesses are required; the notary cannot choose these for you.
- Keep signature lines unsigned until instructed.
- Review for blank spaces or missing pages.
- Confirm every signer will be present with identification.
Share access details
Hospitals, offices, apartments, airports and secure facilities may require parking instructions, visitor approval or an on-site contact. Supplying those details early protects the appointment window.
Create a suitable signing space
Use a stable surface with good lighting and enough privacy for the notary to communicate directly with each signer.
