General questions
What to know before you request service.
Requirements depend on the requested notarial act and jurisdiction. DCMD confirms practical appointment details but cannot provide legal advice.
Where does DCMD Mobile Notary travel?
DCMD serves Washington, DC and Montgomery County, with priority pages for Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Kensington and Wheaton.
Are appointments really available 24/7?
Appointment requests are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Acceptance depends on availability, travel time, document readiness and facility access.
What should I send when requesting an appointment?
Provide the document type, signer count, city or ZIP code, exact location, preferred date and time, deadline, access requirements and a reliable phone number.
Can DCMD prepare or explain my legal document?
No. A notary is not acting as an attorney and cannot draft, select, interpret or advise on legal documents.
Should the document be signed before the notary arrives?
Usually no. Keep signature lines unsigned unless the receiving agency, attorney or document preparer has given specific instructions.
How is pricing determined?
A quote may reflect the notarial act, signatures, location, travel, timing, printing, delivery and special-access needs. Share full details for an accurate quote.
What identification should the signer bring?
Identification requirements depend on the jurisdiction and the notarization. Share the document type when scheduling so current requirements can be confirmed before the appointment.
Can you come to a private home or office?
Yes. DCMD schedules mobile appointments at homes, offices and other agreed locations throughout Washington, DC and Montgomery County.
Can a family member answer for the signer?
No. The notary must communicate with the signer and evaluate willingness and awareness. A family member may help coordinate access but cannot make the signer’s decisions.
Will you provide the legal document?
No. The document must be prepared before the appointment. A notary verifies identity and performs the requested notarial act; a notary does not draft documents or provide legal advice.
Can the notary explain or change my will or power of attorney?
No. DCMD cannot select forms, interpret legal language or give legal advice. Questions about the document should go to the attorney or document preparer before the appointment.
Can witnesses be arranged?
Witness needs vary by document and jurisdiction. Tell us what the preparer requires when you request the appointment so availability can be discussed.
Can documents be printed before the appointment?
Printing may be available when arranged in advance. Provide the package size, deadline and delivery instructions when requesting the appointment.
Do you explain loan terms?
A notary signing agent can point to information in the documents but cannot interpret terms or provide financial or legal advice. Questions about terms go to the lender, title company or attorney.
Can several employees be scheduled together?
Yes. Provide the signer count and document details so enough time can be reserved and identification requirements can be shared in advance.
Do you travel to coworking and temporary offices?
Appointments may be arranged at an agreed workplace or meeting location as long as access and a suitable signing space are confirmed.
Are 24/7 appointments guaranteed immediately?
Appointments may be requested 24/7, but acceptance depends on availability, travel time, facility access and the signer’s readiness. Call for urgent requests.
What airport details are needed?
Provide the airport, airline, terminal, flight timing, meeting point and a reliable mobile contact so feasibility can be confirmed before travel.
